Jacqueline Fernandez hails from Manama in Bahrain. She grew up as part of a multiethnic household. Jacqueline's dad Elroy Fernandez, is an Sri Lankan. Jacqueline has two older brothers as well as a younger sister. Due to unrest in Sri Lanka, her family relocated to Bahrain in the late 1980s. In Australia she pursued a degree in Media and Communications at University of Sydney after completing her studies in Bahrain. She was also a student at in the Berlitz School of Foreign Languages, that helped her learn French, Arabic and Spanish. Miss Sri Lanka 2006 won Miss Universe 2006 competition in March of 2006, and later was also crowned Miss Universe 2006 also. In 2006, she took home her the Miss Sri Lanka title. After that, she went into the world of television, hosting a program on Sri Lankan business named Lanka Business Report. Padukone's father was a badminton player Prakash Padukone. Padukone has had a childhood in Copenhagen and Bangalore. While still a teenager, Padukone competed in a variety of championships for national badminton. However, she resigned from the sport when she decided to pursue a career as a professional model. Padukone is of Mangalorean background, and her mother tongue is Konkani. Padukone, a village within the Kundapura Taluk located in Udupi in Karnataka State, India is where her family is derived from. Prakash Padukone was a badminton legend before retiring in the late 1980s. She has a mother who runs a travel agency also comes from this village.
